Farm-to-Market Road 3417 in Titus County will be widened this year according to plans approved in April by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
“We will be widening a 4.3-mile section of FM 3417 between US 271 and FM 127 southwest of Mount Pleasant. The current highway is 21 feet wide, and we will be widening it to 26 feet. The existing pavement structure is no longer suitable for the current traffic loads. The pavement structure will be strengthened to better handle the traffic loads based on the current roadway use. The widening will allow for two 11-foot traffic lanes with 2-foot paved shoulders on each side,” said Bill Compton, area engineer for TxDOT in Mount Pleasant.
H.V. Caver Inc. was awarded the contract for the project with a bid of $3.2 million.
Work on the project should begin in July and take about five months to complete, Compton said.
