A section of US 59 north of Carthage will receive a new riding surface this coming year according to plans approved in April by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be resurfacing a 4.3-mile section of the highway from the Harrison County line to Farm-to-Market Road 2792,” said Ray Brady, area engineer for TxDOT in Marshall. “In addition to the new pavement, we will be upgrading the metal beam guardrail and bridge railings along this route.”

Madden Contracting Company of Minden, La., was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $4.6 million.

Work on the project should begin in July and take about a year to complete, Brady said.
