A section of US 259 between Lone Star and Ore City in Northeastern Upshur County will receive new riding surface during the coming year according to plans approved in January by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
“We will be working on a 3.4-mile section of US 259 from Farm to Market Road 557 near Lone Star to State Highway 155,” said Kim Garner, area engineer for TxDOT in Mount Pleasant. “The surface of the current pavement will be removed, the existing base material strengthened, and then the entire roadway will be repaved.”
Crews will be working on one side of the divided highway at a time and traffic will be detoured to the other side while the construction work is being conducted.
H. H. Howard and Sons of Daingerfield was awarded the contract for this construction project with a bid of $9.7 million.
"Work on this project should begin in April and take about a year to complete," Garner said.
