Description: The Texas Department of Transportation is hosting a series of public outreach meetings regarding public transportation in rural communities throughout the state.

Public transportation provides mobility options, reduces traffic congestion, conserves fuel, improves air quality, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports emergency preparedness in the areas it serves.

TxDOT promotes and supports public transportation by collaborating with local governments, nonprofit entities and other transportation providers. TxDOT provides funding to assist the needs of elderly individuals and persons with disabilities when current transportation service is unavailable, insufficient or inappropriate.

The way the funds will be distributed has changed. The public is invited to provide input on the distribution of Fiscal Year 2015 funds available to the local area. Information will be provided by the local public transportation coordinator about the application process.
