|Purpose:||This notice is to advise the public that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the planned improvements for FM 179 from 800 feet north of SH 114 (West 19th Street) extending south 4.1 miles to Donald Preston Drive in Lubbock County.
|Description:||The project will widen the two-lane rural highway to a five-lane suburban section with four 11-foot-wide lanes, two 8-foot-wide shoulders, and a 14-foot-wide center left-turn lane.
In order to avoid noise impacts that may result from future development adjacent to a proposed highway project, a traffic noise analysis is included in the environmental assessment (EA) which includes predicted noise impact contours for currently undeveloped areas. These impact contours are intended as a general guide to assist local planning officials and developers plan and construct new activities in locations that would not result in traffic noise impacts.
It is important to note that TxDOT is no longer responsible for providing noise abatement for new development on the date of approval and/or clearance of an environmental document, including the traffic noise analysis, for a proposed highway project.
Copies of the FONSI, approved EA and Certification of Public Involvement for this project are available for review and reproduction at the TxDOT Lubbock District Office, 135 Slaton Road, Lubbock, TX, 79404. For more information contact the District Office at 806-745-4411.
The environmental review, consultation and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
