Open House - MoPac South Environmental Study

Where: Hill Country Middle School
Cafeteria
1300 Walsh Tarlton Lane
Austin, TX 78746
When: Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015
4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Purpose: The Texas Department of Transportation and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority are hosting an open house for the MoPac South corridor between Cesar Chavez Street and Slaughter Lane.

The open house is an opportunity to provide feedback about potential mobility improvements to MoPac South from Cesar Chavez Street to Slaughter Lane. Since the last open house, the MoPac South Project Team utilized public input and collected additional data in order to evaluate the alternatives and recommend a build alternative to be carried forward for additional evaluation.

At the open house, project team members will be on hand to answer questions and provide information. No formal presentation will be given, and attendees are invited to come-and-go at their convenience.

If you can’t attend the open house in-person, visit our virtual open house online at MoPac South. This provides another opportunity to view the same information available during the open house, as well as submit comments. The virtual open house will be available Feb. 27 – March 9, 2015.

Visit MoPac South for more information and to sign up for regular project updates.

Description: The MoPac corridor south of Lady Bird Lake is a vital artery for Austin commuters and neighbors, as well as visitors to our region. Constructed between 1975 and 1992 as a four to six-lane divided highway, it attracts up to 150,000 cars and trucks per day. Over time, population growth and development have increased and are negatively impacting the quality of life for corridor travelers.

The Mobility Authority and TxDOT are developing the environmental study and are working with the city of Austin, Capital Metro and other local partners to improve safety and mobility for drivers, transit riders, bicyclists and pedestrians in a manner that promotes environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
