Katharine "Katie" D. Nees, P.E., serves as director of Strategic Projects.
As a nationally recognized leader, Nees brings with her over 30 years of public and private sector transportation experience with a focus on tolling, innovative financing mechanisms, procurement strategies, project delivery alternatives development and execution.
Nees first started her career with TxDOT’s Dallas District in 1982, where she progressed from assistant southwest area engineer to East Dallas area engineer, later serving as director of Administration for the district. She left the department in 1998 to join the North Texas Tollway Authority, serving as their deputy executive director, responsible for overseeing the delivery of complex multi-agency toll projects, including the $1 billion President George Bush Turnpike, Addison Toll Tunnel, DNT Extension and the nation’s first open-road toll facility. She later served as Division Vice President for a nationally recognized global engineering firm and National Programs Vice President for a North American based engineering firm. Nees returned to TxDOT in 2013 as the deputy director of Strategic Projects Division where she has been instrumental in the oversight of project development, procurement and implementation of design-build and public private partnerships for the State of Texas.
Nees has served on the Texas Transportation Institute Advisory Board, TxDOT Blue-Ribbon Transportation Committee, Dallas Fort Worth Regional Transportation Committee, and will become a board member of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association beginning this Fall 2015.
She was recently recognized by American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) for the Ethel S. Birchland Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding leadership and long-time service commitment to the transportation industry.
