Conference Details

The 2018 National Safety Rest Area Conference was a great success. We are sorry we missed those who could not attend. As is the case with all past conferences, the event was filled with very informative presentations, robust conversations, lessons learned discussions and hopes for future improvements to our safety rest areas nationwide.

In addition to our conference time, the group was led on a tour of three Texas safety rest sreas to experience the unique appeal of each location. Each Texas safety rest area is designed with context sensitivity to capture the look and feel of the unique area where the project is located. The distinctive, regional character of each safety rest area, along with its interpretive exhibits that showcase local features, is intended to entice travelers to stop for a safe, enjoyable and enriching experience.

It is often said that all roads led to Rome. For transportation officials, Rome means “safety,” and the roads leading to safety rest areas are literally "roads to safety," for they entice travelers to stop and take a break from continued and fatigued driving — a major cause of all motor vehicle crashes.
