Texas’ multimodal freight network plays a critical role every day for every resident and business. Within this network, trucks are critical to ensuring the delivery of goods to Texas business and directly to residential homes, keeping food on the table, shelves at stores stocked, manufacturing plants operating, oil pumping and medicine flowing at medical facilities. Ensuring that Texas can meet the trucking demands of a growing population and economy, while improving the safety of the state’s roadways, requires that there is sufficient truck parking capacity across the Texas Highway Freight Network.

In 2019 TxDOT conducted a state-wide Truck Parking study and completed the work in April 2020. The purpose of the study was to assess and address Texas’ existing and future truck parking needs with practical, innovative and cost-effective strategies.

Truck Parking Study Goals:

  • Enhance Safety
  • Improve Asset Management
  • Reduce Congestion
  • Accommodate Connections to Other Modes
  • Develop Cost Effective Solutions
  • Meet Basic Needs of Drivers
  • Partner with Private Sector
  • Promote Economic Competitiveness
  • Leverage Technology
