Each year TxDOT sponsors a statewide campaign to raise awareness in the Hispanic community about the dangers of drinking and driving and to promote sober driver designation. Over 35 percent of the state's population is Hispanic.
Alcohol-related crashes are a serious problem in Texas. About one third of all the state's annual traffic-related fatalities are caused by drinking and driving. In 2014, young Hispanic males comprised 49 percent of all statewide male drivers, ages 17-34, involved in impaired driving crashes. These crashes led to 605 serious injuries and 275 deaths, leaving families facing a lifetime of loss.
