The YouTube component has recently been updated to allow users to play multiple videos embedded within the page, rather than taking them off the TxDOT site as the old YouTube Wall component did. In addition, authors can now choose between two different layouts that are very similar to the Featured Articles component. YouTube Videos can be displayed in a horizontal row or in a “Featured” layout with one larger, primary video and two smaller companion videos. The Featured layout is limited to 3 videos only, while the Horizontal layout can include almost any number of videos – however, be careful not to overwhelm users with too many video options. For the Horizontal layout, since the videos play in-screen, they can be arranged one, two, or three per row. Users who only need to insert a single YouTube video onto a page should use the Horizontal layout and choose the option to display a single video on the row. If you do select to show one video per row, you have an additional option for Format the video in Full page width, which is the default, or to format with an inset option that narrows and centers the video. Both the Featured layout and the Horizontal layout also have the option to display a single button, which would typically be to link users to more content. If you check the box “Include a button” then you can enter the text for the button link as well as the destination. Remember that external links should open in a new tab. In the Horizontal layout, the single button will be centered under the videos. In the Featured layout, the button will display right-aligned under the smaller videos in the right-hand column. Each video added requires the URL of the YouTube video page and a Title field, which is necessary for accessibility. Optional fields include: • A text Video Description field • A “Show sign language icon on video” that can be used if you video includes a sign language interpreter for the deaf • An “Include transcript” button, which then opens a link path for the transcript text file; If checked, a transcript icon will display on your video with a link to the transcript fie. If you are using the Featured layout, you will also see an option for a “Set as primary” button that makes that video the larger, featured video on the left. By default, the first video in the component will be the featured video, but you can override this with the ‘Set as primary’ button without having to reorder your videos.
