I-45 NHHIP Video Descriptions Segment 1, Part 1 This visualization shows the proposed I-45 improvements from Crosstimbers Street to Gulf Bank Road, moving from the south to the north. After Crosstimbers, other cross streets which appear are Airline Drive, Burress Street, Rogers Street, and West Tidwell Road. In this area, the I-45 North Houston Highway Improvement Project, or NHHIP, would widen the roadway to accommodate four lanes known as Max lanes. The roadway would have five general purpose lanes in each direction, with full-width shoulders added. In the middle would be two Max lanes in each direction, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week carrying High Occupancy Vehicle, or HOV, traffic. Currently, the limited HOV system in this area consists of one reversible lane, which takes traffic inbound in the mornings and outbound in the evenings. Along the frontage roads, bicycle-pedestrian features would also be added. Farther north are the cross streets of Parker Road and West Little York Road. North of those streets is Shepherd Drive, which will continue to have the northbound direct connector to I-45 northbound, and the direct connector from I-45 southbound to Shepherd southbound. Plans also call for the construction of a direct connector from the Max lanes to the nearby METRO North Shepherd Park and Ride.
