Instructions for Completion of Application:


This application will help TxDOT determine whether the nominated corridor qualifies for designation as a Texas Scenic Byway.

The complete application with all supporting documentation must be submitted electronically to TxDOT by the deadline noted on the TxDOT Scenic Byways website. Questions should be submitted to TPP_Scenic.Byways@txdot.gov. An applicant may request the use of TxDOT's computer system at any district office location to complete and submit the application documents.

To be considered complete, an application must include all the items and meet all the criteria listed below. The applicant should submit all items together in one electronic submittal.


Please note: The submitter or the signing authority will receive an email shortly after submitting the application requesting an electronic signature to complete the submission process. Submissions that don’t include an electronic signature will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.

2. Corridor must be listed in Transportation Code §391.252

3. Upcoming projects and initiatives that will impact the intrinsic quality will be factored into the decision


Demonstration of Community Support 


Applicants must demonstrate that they have the support of the community by providing:


1. Resolution of support from the governing body of each city and county through which byway passes

2. Letter of support from any federal agency overseeing federal lands through which byway passes


Demonstration of Intrinsic Quality


Applicants must demonstrate that the corridor possesses an intrinsic quality by providing:


> Short description with the reason for designation, including the following (3-page limit):

1. “Theme” (the focus of the byway's nomination story)


2. Traveler experience


3. State and/or national significance

4. Any other relevant designations received


5. List and brief description of up to 8 features (points of interest, sites, or events) that support intrinsic quality(ies)

1. Showing aesthetics and view sheds seen by the motorist

2. Demonstrating presence of intrinsic quality(ies)
