Traffic Alert- Texas vs. OU Weekend

AUSTIN – Thousands of Texas and Oklahoma football fans will be hitting the road for the big annual Texas/OU rivalry football game this weekend in Dallas. The Texas Department of Transportation wants to remind all motorists to drive safely, be patient and expect delays.

Some tips to stay safe this busy travel weekend are:

  • Put phone away/ pay full attention to driving
  • Buckle seatbelts
  • Don’t drink and drive
  • Be courteous/ be patient
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, such as speed limits
  • Take a break from driving

There are no scheduled construction lane closures along I-35 between Austin and the Oklahoma border over the weekend. However some exits may be closed along the route due to existing construction. Drivers should pay close attention to electronic message signs directing them to the correct exits and lanes.

Drivers are also encouraged to stop for a break and refreshments at the Travel Information Center in Gainesville from Friday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Travelers can also stop at any of TxDOT’s Safety Rest Areas along I-35 for restrooms.
