Loop 1604 Expansion Moves Forward to Address Congestion

AUSTIN – A solution for heavy congestion predicted to worsen on Loop 1604 continues to move forward with the selection of Williams Brothers Construction Company, Inc. to complete the design and reconstruction of the roadway at SH 16 in northwest San Antonio.

“We’re gaining ground on bringing traffic relief to an area experiencing tremendous growth at a steady pace,” said Phil Wilson, TxDOT executive director. “Local input played a valued role in moving this project forward as we seek to ease the day-to-day congestion experienced by drivers in this area.”

Williams Brothers will design and build the expansion of Loop 1604 improving mobility, traffic, and safety for motorists. The contract will cover design, construction, and capital maintenance.

The project will expand the Loop to a four-lane freeway with continuous frontage roads from SH 16 (Bandera Road) to FM 471, and add bridge interchanges at Shaenfield, New Guilbeau and Braun Roads totaling $82 million with a $44 million option if the SH 151 interchange reconstruction is added to the project.
