DETAILS
We are excited to announce that a new general issue license
plate design chosen in a statewide vote will be available soon.
The “Lone Star Texas” design features a wide-open sky over a
rugged Texas landscape. This design received the most votes
during an online e-vote campaign last year in which Texans chose
from among five different plate proposals.

COUNTY ACTION
Your county is scheduled to receive a shipment of the new
general issue license plates before
your current stock is exhausted. When the shipment arrives, we
request that you begin distribution of the new plate after you
deplete your current stock of general issue plates.
Vehicle owners who choose to transfer their current plates to a different vehicle may retain the six-character pattern if the plates meet reflectivity standards (plate age must be six years or less).
More questions are answered in a Frequently Asked Questions document that may be found on the TxDOT Web site by entering “general issue plate” in the search field, or may be accessed online.
