Ted Houghton Named Commission Chair

Ted Houghton is the new chair of the Texas Transportation Commission. Gov. Rick Perry announced Houghton's appointment, effective Oct. 7. Houghton succeeds Deirdre Delisi, who recently resigned. Delisi had served as chair since 2008.
Houghton was first appointed to the Commission in 2003 and was reappointed in 2009. A native of El Paso, Houghton is self-employed in the financial services industry. He is the first resident of El Paso to serve on the Commission.

Transportation Commission to Meet Oct. 27
The Texas Transportation Commission will convene for its next regular monthly meeting at 9 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 27. The meeting will be held at 200 East Riverside Drive, Room 1-A.1, in Austin. The Commission will not hold a workshop session this month.
The Commission will consider designating a segment of US 77 from I-37 in Corpus Christi to SH 44 in Robstown as I-69 and will receive an update on the agency's modernization efforts and a report on the activities and recommendations of the I-35 Advisory Committee.

The Smartest Road Ever…
TxDOT is planning to open up a new line of communication between I-35 and its users. Work is underway on one component of the agency's Intelligent Transportation System that will provide I-35 motorists with real-time information, including construction updates, potential travel delays and alternate routes. An article about the project, entitled "The smartest road ever," is in the current issue of Thinking Highways magazine and was researched and written by Gretchen Stoeltje, program specialist with TxDOT's Office of Strategic Policy and Performance Management.

2012 Transportation Forum Set For San Antonio
Registration is now open for the 7th Annual Texas Transportation Forum, set for Feb. 15-17 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. The theme for the 2012 Forum is "We're Going Places!" The annual event assembles local, regional and state leaders with national experts to discuss timely transportation issues.

I-69 Open Houses Scheduled
The I-69 Segment Two Committee will host open houses in Lufkin and Cleveland in the coming weeks to give Texans another opportunity to talk to members and to comment on the group's recommendations and priorities for the development of the I-69 corridor.
