You can add or remove a lien on your vehicle’s title at your local
county tax
office. The title fee must be paid at time of application. Your local county tax
office can tell you the cost.
Remove a Lien
To remove a lien, you will need:
- The vehicle title.
- The release of lien letter and/or other notifications from the
lienholder(s) currently named on the vehicle title.
- A completed
Application for Texas Certificate of Title (Form 130-U). (Make sure you sign
the application.)
Add a Lien
To add a lien on a title, you will need:
Add an Additional Lien
To add another lienholder on the vehicle title, you will need:
- The first lienholder named on the vehicle title must provide the owner
of the vehicle
or the new additional lienholder the vehicle title.
- You also must complete the
Additional Liens Statement
(Form VTR-267). (The vehicle
owner and new lienholder must sign the Additional Liens Statement.)
- A complete
Application for Texas Certificate of Title, (Form 130-U). (Make sure you sign
the application.)
