Texas’ standard license plate, called the “general issue”
plate, illustrates the Lone Star state’s pride in its tradition, land and
opportunities. The license plate features a cowboy, a slice of Texas landscape,
the space shuttle and oil derricks under a nighttime sky.
The license plate was introduced in 2000. It is the first Texas
plate to use three colors -- blue, red and black.

Note: A new general-issue license plate,
chosen by Texas residents through an e-Vote, will begin production in January
2009.
