information is provided to apprise the general public of issues affecting the
state’s vehicle titling and registration process.
PURPOSE
To provide you with information on House Bill 3437 (copy
attached) passed by the
80th Legislature, Regular Session, 2007.
DETAILS
House Bill 3437 amends Texas Transportation Code, Chapter 502 by
adding Section 502.1725, Optional County Fee For Transportation
Projects (Optional Mobility Fee). The bill provides that, upon
order by the commissioners’ court, counties that border the
United Mexican States and have a population of more than
300,000, and the largest municipality within the county has a
population of less than 300,000, may charge an additional fee of
up to $10 at the time of vehicle registration. Currently, only
Cameron and Hidalgo counties meet the population criteria
specified in the bill.
COUNTY ACTION
We are informing all county tax assessor-collectors of this new
statute in the event you receive any inquiries concerning the
Optional Mobility Fee.
