New Motor Vehicle Dealer General Distinguishing Number (GDN)
Formats |
These documents contain text of correspondence sent by
TxDOT to the county tax assessor-collectors, statutory agents who provide
vehicle registration and titling services for citizens in Texas. This
information is provided to apprise the general public of issues affecting the
state’s vehicle titling and registration process.
PURPOSE
To provide you with information regarding entering the new 7 and
8 digit GDN’s in the Registration and Title System (RTS).
DETAILS
The Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) has adopted new automated GDNs
which consist of the letter “P” followed by 6 digits (total of 7
digits). The GDN for trailer dealers will consist of an 8-digit
pattern (P plus 6 digits plus X). Currently, RTS allows for the
entry of only 6 digits.
COUNTY ACTION
When processing title transactions involving Texas motor vehicle
dealers, enter the numeric digits only in RTS. The GDNs are
unique and omitting the “P” and “X” will continue to allow MVD
to identify a specific motor vehicle dealer.
