Specialty License Plates Not Linked to Vehicles in RTS |
Attachment
[word, 1 page, 28kb]
These documents contain text of correspondence sent by
TxDOT to the county tax assessor-collectors, statutory agents who provide
vehicle registration and titling services for citizens in Texas. This
information is provided to apprise the general public of issues affecting the
state’s vehicle titling and registration process.
PURPOSE
To advise you of the steps we are taking to determine if specialty license
plates listed in the Registration and Title System (RTS) without vehicle
information are being used on vehicles.
DETAILS
Some specialty license plate records in our database file do not have
associated vehicle information. Some of these are valid, but an unknown number
are probably being used on vehicles.
In order to determine the use of the plates, we are requesting the owner’s
assistance via a renewal insert (see attached). Approximately 2,500 specialty
plate owners a month will receive these inserts.
If customers are using the specialty plates on a vehicle we are asking them
to contact your office in person and provide the vehicle identification number
(VIN) of the vehicle so you may link the specialty plate to the vehicle record.
COUNTY ACTION
Please update RTS and collect any additional fees as appropriate.
