These documents contain text of correspondence sent by
TxDOT to the county tax assessor-collectors, statutory agents who provide
vehicle registration and titling services for citizens in Texas. This
information is provided to apprise the general public of issues affecting the
state’s vehicle titling and registration process.
PURPOSE
With the Specialty Plate Project implementation coming to a
close, we are reinstating the monthly purge of the special plate
file. The purge will occur the first Sunday of each month.
DETAILS
Beginning February 3, 2008, approximately 30,000 motor vehicle records
of all specialty plate types that have been expired for two months or more will
be purged. The purge affects records with expired registration (November 2007
and prior). These purged specialty plate numbers (personalized and
non-personalized) will be returned to virtual inventory and will be available
for purchase and/or re-issue.
A customer wishing to renew their personalized license plate selection on a
purged record must reapply for the personalized plate selection if it is still
available. The customer or county may check the availability of a plate
selection using www.texasonline.com. The customer also has the option of
requesting a set of general issue plates if their personalized selection is not
available.
Customers with non-personalized organizational, collegiate, or professional
sports team specialty plates who wish to renew their expired specialty plates
will also be required to apply for another set of specialty plates. They will
not receive the same license number that was on their expired specialty plate.
Those customers will also have the option of requesting general issue plates.
