Addition of a Second Mainline from Dayton to Baytown

Adding tracks will allow the service of the customer base to continue without occupying the main track, staging tracks, or work leads on portions of the Baytown Subdivision.

Analysis

Essentially creating the appearance of a second main track may reduce the main track interference by providing bypass capability, and support the continued chemical traffic growth experienced along this segment.

Cost

The second mainline is estimated to cost $137,000,000 and is classified as a level 4 long-range improvement, and should undergo further testing to determine the extent of the improvement’s impact on the region’s rail network, and to quantify the associated public and private benefits that may be attained.
