Description
This eight-lane bridge is for commercial vehicles only. It is 977 feet long.
Construction began on September 30, 1998, and the bridge opened on April 15, 2000. That
same day, the border station (USBS World Trade) also became operational. The
City of Laredo owns the border station, and the U.S. General Services
Administration leases the facilities.
The crossing is also known locally as
Laredo North, Bridge 4, Laredo IV, Puente Internacional Nuevo Laredo III and
Puente del Comercio Mundial Nuevo Laredo III.
More information is available from the
City of Laredo.
Identified Needs The bridge receives a consistently high volume of truck traffic throughout the day
(as opposed to only during peak hours). About 1.3 million trucks travel southbound through this port of entry per year,
while about 1.1 million trucks travel northbound. Identified needs include traffic signal phasing and synchronization,
as well as improvements to the flow of truck traffic upon entering and exiting the port of entry.Recommendations At the end of the study, improvements will be recommended based upon identified needs of the border crossings.
