Laredo-Colombia Solidarity Bridge

Description

This eight-lane bridge has two sidewalks and is 1,216 feet long. It was completed on July 31, 1991.

The crossing is also known locally as Colombia Bridge, Puente Solidaridad, Puente Colombia and Puente Internacional Solidaridad Colombia.

More information is available from the City of Laredo.

Identified Needs

The bridge receives a high volume of commercial vehicles, which are directed to the temporary Department of Public Safety (DPS) facility located outside the crossing. Commercial trucks can back-up upon exiting the bridge in order to wait in line to pass through the DPS facility. Identified needs include restriping pavement markings and improving the exit lanes from the DPS Border Safety Inspection Facilities, as trucks are forced to quickly merge with oncoming traffic.

Recommendations

At the end of the study, improvements will be recommended based upon identified needs of the border crossings. If you would like to comment on the study, please e-mail us.
