Good Neighbor Bridge |
Description
This crossing is a five-lane bridge. Four lanes are for southbound traffic only,
while the fifth lane is a northbound, dedicated commuter lane. A dedicated
commuter lane is for frequent border-crossers who have passed a background check
and inspection. No commercial traffic is allowed.
The 880-foot-long bridge was rebuilt in 1967 as part of the Chamizal Treaty.
The crossing is also known locally as
Stanton Street Bridge, Friendship Bridge, Puente Rio Bravo and Puente Ciudad Juárez-Stanton
El Paso.
More information is available from the
City of El
Paso.
Identified Needs Southbound traffic is heavy and can back up all the way to Paisano
Street, especially during peak hours. Pedestrian traffic is also high at this
bridge, causing a dangerous mix of vehicular and pedestrian traffic during peak hours.
Identified needs include a better flow of traffic in the approach to the bridge and more traffic lights in the area.Recommendations At the end of the study, improvements will be recommended based upon identified needs of the border crossings.
