McAllen-Hidalgo-Reynosa Bridge |
DescriptionThis crossing includes two bridges. The old, four-lane bridge serves only
southbound traffic and is 524 feet long. The new, four-lane bridge serves only northbound traffic
and is 852 feet long.
The crossing is also known locally as
Hidalgo Bridge, Puente Reynosa and Puente Reynosa-McAllen I.
History
Beginning September 1, 1996, all northbound commercial vehicles were directed
from this crossing to the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge
on the Rise. Southbound commercial vehicles are permitted to use either the
McAllen-Hidalgo-Reynosa Bridge or the Pharr-Reynosa Bridge to enter Mexico.

Identified Needs
This bridge is located in a highly
developed, commercial area. Identified needs include the separation of vehicles
using the nearby commercial retail, parking lots and duty-free stores from
vehicles traveling south to the port of entry.
Recommendations At the end of the study, improvements will be recommended based upon identified needs of the border crossings.
