Fort Hancock-El Porvenir Bridge |
Description
This narrow, two-lane bridge is only used by passenger vehicles. The bridge was
constructed in 1936 by the International Boundary
and Water Commission (IBWC). The old border station was constructed in 1955, and
the new border station was completed in 2003 and is owned by the U.S. General Services
Administration.
The crossing is also known locally as Puente El Porvenir.
Identified Needs This bridge receives a daily average of 800 to 1,000
passenger vehicles. Commercial vehicles are not allowed to cross at this port of entry.
Identified needs include better signage within the study area.Recommendations At the end of the study, improvements will be recommended based upon identified needs of the border crossings.
