Year after year, Texas has some of the highest incidence of drunk driving in
the nation. In 2006, 1,677 people died in alcohol-related crashes on state
roadways. Safety experts continually remind us that drunk driving incidents
spike during the holiday season.
TxDOT has launched its 10th annual holiday campaign to
prevent drunk driving. Motorists statewide are urged to designate a driver and
avoid getting behind the wheel if alcohol is included in their holiday
celebrations.
Santa is back for an encore appearance in TV commercials,
billboards and retail ads to remind Texans not to drink and drive. The
DWI-prevention campaign, which has gained national news coverage, also includes
radio spots and coasters and decals in convenience stores, bars and restaurants.
