Purpose
The purpose of our Product Evaluation Program is to:
- centralize the receipt and processing of vendor requests to
evaluate new products,
- expand field evaluation of products, and
- communicate findings to vendors.
Definitions
In the context of this
program, a new product is a product or process currently available on the market
for which we do not have a current specification. It may also include a
product that appears to be equal or superior to products currently covered by a
specification.
Goals
The goals of the evaluation are to determine whether a product is ready for use
and whether it would be beneficial to our operations. The evaluation process
is limited to confirming data provided by the vendor. Typical data submitted
includes laboratory test reports, engineering reports, technical publications
and other data citing the economic and engineering advantages of the product.
Restrictions
Any TxDOT determination of product acceptability does not:
- obligate us to procure or require any of our contractors to procure
the product for use on department projects, or
- constitute an endorsement or finding of suitability for use, other than
for TxDOT.
