Multi-State Single-Trip Permits are issued under the Western Regional Permitting
Agreement ("WASHTO").
The State of Texas, through TxDOT, participates
in the "Western Regional Agreement for the Issuance of Permits for Oversize and
Overweight Vehicles Involved in Interstate Travel." Under the terms of the
agreement, each member state may issue regional permits allowing operations in
any other member state. The following states are currently members of the
Western Regional Agreement: Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington,
Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Oklahoma, Louisiana, Nevada.
Order a Permit Now! How Do I Apply?
When applying through
TxDOT, customers may use
Online Permits (CPS) to apply for and receive a permit, submit a completed
Form 400, Western Regional
Permit Application [pdf, 1 page, 29kb] by fax (512) 465-3549, or call (800) 299-1700 to order by
phone. Call (800) 299-1700, options 1 then 2, if
you have any questions.
Applications submitted to Texas by fax must include credit card payment,
Permit Account Card, or
escrow information.
NOTE: Movement of manufactured homes is not covered under the Western Regional
Agreement due to the numerous variances between jurisdictions.
Permittees under the Western Regional Agreement must fall within the
non-reducible maximum dimensions listed below: Weight - 14
- 600 pounds per inch of tire width
- 21,500 pounds per axle
- 43,000 pounds per tandem axle
- 53,000 pounds per tridem (wheelbase more than 8 and less than 13)
- 160,000 pounds gross weight
- In no case may the gross weight exceed the sum of the permitted axle, group axle
weights or the weight specified by the permit, whichever is less.
- A minimum of five axles
- The weight on any group of axles shall be determined by the
permissible weight
table.
Length - 14
- 110 overall. This agreement does not authorize permits for a semitrailer
longer than 53 to carry more than one item, or for any unladen semitrailer
longer than 53 used in a truck-tractor and semitrailer combination.
- In Oregon, an unladen combination of vehicles may consist of the towing or power
unit and not more than one "jeep," one semitrailer and one "booster," provided
semitrailer length is not more than 62. Movement is authorized unladen with
fewer vehicles, or with the jeep and/or booster loaded on the semitrailer.
However, the absence of both the jeep and the booster (carried as load or in
use) invalidates this provision.
It is the companys responsibility to have proper vehicle registration or to
acquire the proper registration in each state that the load will travel.
In Texas, carriers must provide a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), a Texas
Motor Carrier Registration number, or have a Superheavy or
Oversize Permit Bond
on file.
This single-trip permit is valid for a period of five working days, for use by
the permitted vehicle only (tractor or trailer). Permits may not be issued more
than five calendar days in advance of the effective date. One extension of up to
five days may be granted, provided the permittee can show that weather, road
conditions, or a mechanical failure of the vehicle precluded completion of the
permitted trip during the initial five-day period.
Fees Fees are calculated and collected by the issuing jurisdiction based on the fee
schedules of each jurisdiction in route. However, fees are the same as if
ordered directly from each state. You may access this information by visiting
