You must obtain an oversize/overweight permit from the Texas Department of
Transportation’s Motor Carrier Division if your vehicle and/or load exceeds
Texas legal size and weight limits.
How Do I Apply?
Customers may use
Online Permits (CPS) to apply for and receive a permit, submit
Form 106, Permit Fax Application

Texas Self-Issue Application and Permit [pdf, 2 pages, 35kb] by telephone (800) 299-1700. Customers must
include payment information when applying for a permit.
Single-trip mileage permits are valid for a maximum of seven consecutive days,
from a specific point of origin to a specific ending point. A single-trip
mileage permit allows the unit to return to the point of origin or other
location on the same permit, provided the miles for the entire route are
charged.
Motor Carrier Registration Requirements
Mileage permits are exempt from motor carrier registration/surety bond
requirements.
Vehicle Registration Requirements
Proper vehicle registration must be obtained through
TxDOT's Vehicle Titles and Registration
or your county tax office. Vehicle must be registered
under
Transportation Code,
Chapter 502, for the maximum gross weight applicable
to the vehicle under
Transportation Code,
Section 621.101, or have the
distinguishing license plates as provided by
Transportation Code,
Section
504.504, if applicable to the vehicle.
Fees
There is a minimum fee of $31. For more information on fees, call

Fees are payable by:
- MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express
($1 service charge)
- PAC-Permit Account Card
- personal check, business check, cashier's check, or money order, payable to the
Texas Department of Transportation, or cash (MUST be delivered to a
cash office)
- funds deposited in a pre-established escrow account
When applying electronically or by facsimile you must provide credit card,
permit account card, or escrow account payment information.
All fees are non-refundable.
Other Information
- No movement over Fred Hartman Bridge on SH 146 when exceeding maximum
permissible weight.
- Tarrant County curfew does apply to mobile cranes.
- 24 hour movement is allowed with front and rear
escorts when moving
self-propelled mobile cranes that are 10' 6" wide or less, 14' high or less, and
95' long or less.
- 24 hour movement is allowed with front and rear escorts when moving
self-propelled well servicing units that are 9' wide or less, 14' high or less,
and 65' long or less.
- Vehicles that are only overweight may be granted 24 hour movement on a
single-trip mileage permit.
- The maximum permissible weight allowed per axle is up to 30,000 pounds based
upon the results of a weight analysis. Units are not to exceed 850 pounds per
inch of tire width for non-steerable units and 950 pounds per inch of tire width
for steerable units.
- Permitted loads must not cross any
load restricted bridge.
- A unit exceeding 12' in width must travel centered in the outside traffic lane
of any highway that has paved shoulders.
- A unit exceeding 175,000 pounds gross weight must

unit as it crosses a bridge
- Cross all multi-lane bridges by centering the unit on a lane line
- Cross all two-lane bridges in the center of the bridge.
