Order a Permit Now! The Texas Department of Transportation issues an annual permit to transport
cylindrical bales of hay. How Do I Apply? Customers may use
Online Permits (CPS) to apply for and receive a permit, or by submitting a completed

34kb] by facsimile (512) 465-3565. You
may also apply by telephone 1-800-299-1700, or by mail to the address on the
application.
Annual cylindrical bales of hay permits must be renewed one year from the
"movement to begin" date.
Motor Carrier Registration Requirements
Prior to obtaining an oversize/overweight permit, an applicant permitted
under the provisions of Transportation Code, Chapter 623, Subchapter D, must
be registered as a commercial motor carrier or, if not required to obtain a
motor carrier registration, file a surety bond with
the department.
A Commercial motor vehicle includes any motor vehicle or combination of
vehicles with a gross weight, registered weight, or gross weight rating in
excess of 26,000 pounds that is designed or used for the transportation of cargo
in furtherance of any commercial enterprise.
A farm vehicle with a gross weight, registered weight, and gross weight
rating of 48,000 pounds or more, must be registered as a motor carrier.
Vehicle Registration Requirements Proper
vehicle registration must be obtained through TxDOT's Vehicle Titles and
Registration Division or your
county tax office. Vehicle must be registered in
accordance with
Transportation Code,
Chapter 502, for the maximum weight, as set
forth by
Transportation Code,
Chapter 621.
Fees The annual permit fee is $10.
Fees are payable by:
- MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express
($1 service charge)
- PAC-Permit Account Card
- personal check, business check, cashier's check, or money order, payable to the
Texas Department of Transportation (for mail applications only)
- cash (MUST be delivered to a cash office) or
- with funds deposited in a pre-established escrow account
All fees are non-refundable.
Other Information
- Permits may not be transferred from one permittee to another permittee, or from
one vehicle to another vehicle.
- This permit allows movement on all state-maintained highways.
- A permittee may not travel on any
load zoned roads or
bridges in when exceeding
the posted capacity.
- Permits cannot be amended.
- Daylight movement only.
- Permittees are responsible for obtaining information concerning
current
restrictions and weather-related hazardous
road conditions.
