Order a Permit Now! An annual crane permit allows for movement on state maintained roads in the
State of Texas. 24 hour movement is allowed if weight only. To be eligible for
an Annual Crane Permit, the crane must not exceed 10' in width, and be of legal
height and length limits and 120,000 pounds gross weight. The vehicle cannot exceed 650 pounds per inch of tire width:
- 25,000 pounds single axle
- 46,000 pounds 2 axle
- 60,000 pounds 3 axle
- 70,000 pounds 4 axle
- 81,400 pounds 5 axle
- 120,000 pounds gross weight max.
How Do I Apply?
Customers may use
Online Permits (CPS) to apply for and receive a permit, or by submitting a completed
Form 302,
Application and Renewal for Time Permits [pdf, 2 pages, 27kb] by facsimile (512) 465-3585. You may
also apply by telephone (800) 299-1700, or by mail to the address on the
application.
Annual crane permits must be renewed each year prior to the expiration date of
the current permit.
Motor Carrier Registration Requirements
- Motor carrier registration is not required.
- A Texas oversize/overweight surety bond is required.
Vehicle Registration Requirements
Proper vehicle registration must be obtained through TxDOT's Vehicle Titles and
Registration Division or your
county tax office. Vehicle must be registered
under Transportation Code,
Chapter 502, for the maximum gross weight applicable
to the vehicle under
Transportation Code,
Section 621.101, or have the
distinguishing license plates as provided by
Transportation Code,
Section
504.504, if applicable to the vehicle.
Temporary tags are not an acceptable form of registration for this permit.
Fees
The annual permit fee is $100.
Fees are payable by:
- MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express
($1 service charge)
- PAC-Permit Account Card
- personal check, business check, cashier's check, or money order, payable to the
Texas Department of Transportation, or cash, (MUST be delivered to a
cash
office) or
- with funds deposited in a pre-established
escrow account
Permit fees are non-refundable.
Other Information
- This permit allows for unlimited movement on state-maintained roads in the State
of Texas under the following conditions.
- Permits may not be amended.
- Permittee is responsible for routing and obtaining
current restrictions and
information concerning hazardous weather related
road conditions
- Permittee must follow all curfews as listed on the
Permit Movement Conditions and Curfews Form 001 [pdf, 1 page,
24kb], which must be attached to the permit at all times.
- Permittees may not travel over
load zoned roads or
bridges when exceeding the
posted capacity.
- Night movement allowed with front and rear
escorts.
