Motor Carrier Inquiries
TxDOT provides a
searchable database for use by the public to obtain information about motor
carriers that we have registered or for whom we have issued permits. This
includes information such as, company or owner’s name, addresses, insurance
records, recent activities and vehicle data.
Exceptions to Consumer Protection Requirements
A few types of services provided by household goods movers are exempt from
TxDOT's consumer protection rules.
Household goods moves from one state to another state.
TxDOT's consumer
protection requirements do not apply to shipments that are picked up in one
state and delivered to another state. Movers who transport shipments across
state lines are subject to U.S. Department of Transportation guidelines. For
further information on interstate moves, please contact:
U.S. Department
of Transportation Licensing and Insurance Division (HIA-30) Office of
Motor Carrier Information Analysis Federal Highway Administration 400
Virginia Avenue SW Washington, DC 20024.
They can be contacted by telephone
at (202) 358-7027. Complaints may also be made to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration Complaint Line at 1-800-368-7238.
Household goods moves transported subject to a U.S. Government Bill of
Lading or to a written agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense.
When a
mover contracts with the U.S. government to move a governmental employee,
the contract provides consumer protection for the employee. TxDOT's consumer
protection rules do not apply to this type of move.
Packing, loading, unloading or unpacking by mover, or storage only of
household goods.
TxDOT's consumer protection rules do not apply when a mover
is hired to only pack, unpack, load or unload household goods or when the
mover contracts only for storage of household goods. If the consumer hires
the mover to provide services that do not include transporting the goods,
TxDOT's consumer protection rules do not apply.
