Robert H. Dedman received three undergraduate degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Law degree from Southern Methodist University. He practiced law in Dallas for several years before founding ClubCorp International in 1957.

In addition to serving more than 10 years on the Texas Transportation Commission as both a member and Chairman, Mr. Dedman also served as the chairman of the State Purchasing and General Services Commission for two years. He also served on the SMU Board of Trustees for several years.

The Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports and Dedman College at SMU are named for him. Both Dedman Memorial Hospital and Dedman Medical Center in Dallas are also named for him, and thousands of scholarship students have attended The University of Texas as Dedman Merit Scholars.
