Robert C. Lanier graduated from The
University of Texas Law School with honors
in 1949. He pursued careers in law, finance
and real estate development. He held
controlling interest in several financial
institutions until 1981.
Mr. Lanier served as both a member and Chairman of the State Highway and
Public Transportation Commission of Texas (now known as the Texas Transportation
Commission) from March 30, 1983, until July 28, 1987. His service on the
commission was noted for its transition from a rural-dominated commission to a
commission reflecting the urban change taking place in Texas at that time. After
leaving the commission, Mr. Lanier was elected Mayor of Houston in 1992 and
served three consecutive terms in that office until 1998. |
