DeWitt C. Greer, P.E., was affectionately
known as the "King of the Highway Builders."
He graduated from Texas A&M College with
scholastic honors in 1923. After several
challenging positions in the road
construction business, Greer went to work
for the Texas Highway Department in 1927. In
July, 1940, the 37 year old Greer was
selected to become the department's State
Highway Engineer. He served in that capacity
for more than 27 years. After retiring from
the department, Mr. Greer served another 10
years as both a member and Chairman of the
Texas Transportation Commission. |
