B. L. DeBerry, P.E., graduated from The
University of Texas at Austin in 1937 with a
degree in civil engineering. Immediately
after graduation, he joined the Texas
Highway Department. With the exception of a
short leave of absence during World War II,
he spent the next 43 years working for the
department. During WWII, he served in both
the U.S. Corps of Engineers and the U.S.
Navy.
His career with the department included assignments throughout the state
serving as an instrumentman, resident engineer, senior resident engineer,
assistant district engineer and district engineer. He also served as the
Assistant State Highway Engineer, before becoming the State Highway Engineer in
1973. He served in that position until his retirement in 1980. |
