Clean Air Plan Measures

  1. Ozone action day notification program – notify TxDOT employees by e-mail of a predicted ozone action day and include ideas to reduce emissions
  2. Avoiding mowing of TxDOT property in nonattainment, Early Action Compact, and near-nonattainment areas on ozone action days
  3. Encouraging contractors to avoid mowing rights of way on ozone action days
  4. Encouraging contractors to use new (2003 and Newer) equipment to mow rights of way
  5. Installing energy efficient LED type bulbs for new signal lights
  6. Purchasing only low-emissions/spill proof portable gasoline cans
  7. Performing night construction in high-volume corridors where safety is not compromised and the added costs are justified
  8. Encouraging contractors to apply for Texas Emission Reduction Plan Grants through TCEQ
  9. Providing priority parking spaces for carpools and vanpools
  10. Conducting “Drive Clean Across Texas” (DCAT) training for TxDOT employees
  11. Conducting DCAT or other clean air events for external audiences
  12. Purchasing and driving personal alternative-fuel vehicles
  13. Performing routine maintenance on personal vehicles
  14. Using alternative modes to commute to work
  15. Reducing workday outings in personal vehicles
  16. Avoiding refueling gasoline powered vehicles between 6-10 a.m.
  17. Adopting lane closure guidelines that set the type and duration of lane closures based on activity, time of day, and traffic volumes
  18. Limiting idling of vehicles to no more than five minutes when safety is not compromised
  19. Upgrading off-road diesel equipment
  20. Using cleaner burning diesel fuel (Texas Low Emission Diesel Fuel/Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) in TxDOT’s on- and off-road equipment
  21. Purchasing only solar-powered, zero-emission sign and arrow boards
  22. Using green energy providers
