The theme for the
2008
Texas Aviation Art Contest is “Commercial Aviation.” Children are encouraged
to submit artwork inspired by what commercial aviation means to them. This can
mean anything from packages sent by grandma or fresh lobsters from Maine to
holiday visits from family and friends.
Commercial flying accounts for $38 billion, or 6 percent, of the Texas
economy. It provides 996,000 jobs, or 11 percent of the state's workforce.
The aim of the contest, sponsored by TxDOT and the Southwest Airlines
Company, was to motivate and encourage children to study aeronautics, engineering
and science.
Winners
The winners were divided into three age groups: Category I (ages 5-9),
Category II (ages 10-13) and Category III (ages 14-17).
The top three winners in each category will receive two roundtrip tickets
from Southwest Airlines.
