The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is seeking public comment regarding the significant federal transportation policy issues facing the state. Every six years Congress undertakes the very important task of authorizing the surface transportation program. The current multi-year federal authorization program expired on September 30, 2009.
It is anticipated that the actual legislation authorizing the program will not pass until later this fiscal year or next. Congress will be working in the coming months to identify the transportation policies and funding levels that Texas will operate within during the next six year cycle.
TxDOT solicited public input in identifying the critical policies and principles which should guide Texas' decision makers through this process. That draft document was presented to the Transportation Commission on December 16, 2009. TxDOT is now soliciting public comment on this draft and the priorities and principles contained in that document. The information gathered will be used to inform Congress of the needs of the State of Texas regarding surface transportation. TxDOT seeks both general ideas and specific recommendations.
