FM 1179 (E Villa Maria Road and Briarcrest Drive) Raised Medians
The TxDOT Bryan District is developing plans to improve safety along FM 1179 (E Villa Maria Road and Briarcrest Drive) from Kent Street to S College Avenue in Brazos County. The project would construct raised medians on FM 1179 to enhance safety within this section of roadway.
This project will complement the existing medians at the intersection of BS 6-R (Texas Avenue) by extending them to S College Avenue and Kent Street. Potential improvements to FM 1179 include:
- Constructing raised medians to reduce vehicle turning conflicts
- Adjusting curbs along the roadway edge as needed to improve roadway curvature
- Constructing a new right-turn lane in front of Sul Ross Elementary at Carter Creek Parkway
Background
Each year, TxDOT reviews our roadway system to determine priority locations for safety improvements. This section of FM 1179 was evaluated and selected for project development, design, and construction. The Bryan District office is developing the design and investigating environmental impacts. The construction plans will be prepared for the most appropriate design with a target construction date in Fall of 2021.
