Purpose The purpose of the public meeting is to present the proposed project to the public and receive comments. The project is proposing improvement along FM 1488 from BU 290 to Joseph Rd in Waller and Harris Counties, Texas. The virtual and in-person meeting will consist of the same narrated presentation by the project team, project exhibits and other information, and an opportunity to comment.
Description

The proposed design would widen existing FM 1488 from a two-lane, undivided roadway to a four-lane, divided roadway. The section between BU 290 and United States 290 would be converted to a four-lane roadway with 18-foot-wide raised median, a 10-foot-wide sidepath on both sides of the roadway to accommodate bicycles and pedestrians, and curb and gutter. The remainder of the project limits from US 290 to Joseph Road would be widened from two lanes to four lanes, with 10-foot-wide outside shoulders, four-foot-wide inside shoulders, five-foot-wide sidewalks to accommodate pedestrians, open ditch drainage, and a 40-foot-wide depressed grassy median. There are two areas of the project where FM 1488 would be converted to a four-lane roadway with 16-foot-wide flush median that would serve as a center left turn lane, with 10-foot-wide outside shoulders, and five-foot-wide sidewalks to accommodate pedestrians. This layout is proposed from west of Giboney Road to east of Hegar Road and from west of Woodway Drive to Joseph Road. In addition, several curves on FM 1488 would be realigned to meet safety criteria.

The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potentially displace five residences, six commercial structures and four non-residential structures. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program and services and benefits for those displaced and other affected property owners, as well as information about the tentative schedule for ROW acquisition and construction, can be obtained from the TxDOT District Office by calling 713-802-5766.

The proposed project could involve construction in wetlands.

The proposed project would involve an action in a floodplain.
