Purpose

TxDOT is proposing to realign SH 144 and construct a new bridge across the Paluxy River from near FM 56 to US 67 in Somervell County, Texas.

Description

The proposed SH 144 realignment project is approximately 2.7-miles of new location roadway including construction of a new bridge across the Paluxy River near Glen Rose, Somervell County, Texas. The project's intent is to improve the access and mobility of SH 144 by constructing a new bridge across the Paluxy River. A feasibility study was conducted in June 2020 to determine the need for and viability of a second bridge crossing over the Paluxy River along SH 144 near the city of Glen Rose in Somervell County, Texas. The purpose of the proposed second crossing is to reduce congestion and provide an alternative route in case of emergency.

Proposed improvements are described below:

From existing SH 144 to the proposed new Paluxy River bridge

  • Interim – two 12-foot lanes with no shoulders, an eight-foot sidewalk and a 10-foot shared-use path
  • Ultimate – four 12-foot lanes with no 12-foot left turn lane, no 12-foot right turn lane, an eight-foot sidewalk and a 10-foot shared-use path

New bridge across the Paluxy River

  • Interim – two 12-foot-wide lanes, two 10-foot-wide shoulders, two 16-foot wide inside shoulders, an eight-foot-wide sidewalk, and a 10-foot wide shared-use path
  • Ultimate – four 12-foot-wide lanes, two 10-foot-wide outside shoulders, an eight-foot-wide sidewalk, and a 10-foot wide shared-use path

From the new Paluxy River bridge to US 67

  • Interim – two 12-foot-wide lanes, Two 10-foot-wide outside shoulders, an eight-foot-wide sidewalk, and a 10-foot wide shared-use path
  • Ultimate – four 12-foot-wide lanes, two 10-foot-wide outside shoulders, an eight-foot-wide sidewalk and a 10-foot wide shared-use path

Intersection improvements are proposed at FM 56 and CR 312. The proposed project right of way (ROW) would include a grassy center median (two to 26-feet wide) that would accommodate the future construction of the ultimate roadway and bridge. The proposed right of way width is 120-feet wide. The total proposed ROW acreage is estimated at 78acres.

Although additional right of way would be required, no residential or non-residential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time.
