Purpose
TxDOT is conducting a virtual open house with in-person options. In-person attendees will be able to view the same materials shared in the virtual open house, review hard copies of project materials, ask questions of TxDOT staff and/or consultants and leave written comments. Two separate in-person meetings are scheduled to take place beginning with one on Tuesday Feb. 7, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The second in-person meeting will be scheduled on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Both in-person meetings will cover the same material.
Description

The proposed project includes the following:

  • Widen US 281 between US 183 (Lampasas) and US 84 (Evant) in Lampasas and Coryell counties with two additional travel lanes in either a northbound or southbound direction for a total of four lanes
  • Improve safety by separating traffic with a grassy median
  • Add crossovers along US 281 within the project to facilitate access to both sides of the highway. Exact crossover locations have not yet been determined

The purpose of the project is to help reduce congestion by constructing additional travel lanes, improve safety by separating north and southbound travel lanes with a grassy median and upgrading other safety appurtenances (guard rail, sloped end treatments of culverts, widened shoulders, etc.), and improve mobility. The project spans approximately 28 miles and an approximately 250 acres will be required for right of way; some displacements are anticipated but have not yet been identified.

Accessibility The virtual open house and in-person option will be conducted in English. If you need an interpreter or document translator because English is not your primary language or you have difficulty communicating effectively in English, one will be provided to you. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs.
