Spur 421

TxDOT is widening Spur 421 between Evers Road and I-10 from the existing four lane curbed road to a seven lane roadway: three lanes in each direction with a continuous left turn lane. The proposed improvements include wider outside (right) lanes that will operate as shared bicycle lanes, sidewalks, curb. All driveways within the limits of the construction would be replaced. Special aesthetic/decorative features would be added near the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower.

Work on Spur 421 began in July 2007 with utility relocation at I-10 and continued west. After the underground utilities were relocated, roadway construction quickly followed closing one-half of the road to traffic. The total reconstruction on Spur 421 is complete between I-10 and Navidad on both sides of the road and is complete between Navidad and 23rd Street on the south half of the road.

The 5.2 mile project is anticipated to be completed by early 2012.
