When completed, the SH 121/Southwest Parkway project will be a four- to six-lane divided toll road extending for approximately 14 miles from I-30 to FM 1187. It will connect with a 13-mile project in Johnson County from FM 1187 to US 67 in Cleburne, also known as Chisholm Trail.
Stakeholders
SH 121 Southwest Parkway/Chisholm Trail is a partnership between TxDOT, the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Tarrant and Johnson counties, and the cities of Fort Worth, Cleburne, Joshua and Burleson.
Status Updates
TxDOT and NTTA have agreed to combine the SH 121/Chisholm Trail with the SH 121/Southwest Parkway. The Texas Transportation Commission has initially supported NTTA's further development of this project by providing a toll equity loan. NTTA staff will continue to work with TxDOT and regional leaders to finalize the toll equity loan after TxDOT completes an environmental re-assessment on Chisholm Trail
Subject to NTTA establishing feasibility and the NCTCOG Regional Transportation Council funds remaining committed, NTTA will deliver the entire SH 121 corridor in Tarrant and Johnson counties. TxDOT, NTTA and NCTCOG continue to work in partnership to identify solutions to close a projected funding gap to deliver the entire SH 121 corridor.
Both the Tarrant and Johnson county portions of SH 121 were initially cleared through the environmental process, but must be re-evaluated due to changes in the initial project. The Southwest Parkway re-evaluation has been cleared, and the Chisholm Trail re-evaluation should be complete by the end of 2010.
Initial improvements are beginning along the corridor. NTTA is starting a project near downtown Fort Worth at the Union Pacific Railroad to accommodate the future roadway. TxDOT is overseeing construction for mobility improvements at I-20 in Fort Worth and U.S. 67 in Cleburne. These two projects were selected by NCTCOG with $144 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds with work beginning in March 2010.
