I-30 to I-820
The existing highway includes two to three general purpose lanes each direction. Preliminary planning indicates that four general purpose lanes in each direction, along with two managed lanes in each direction in the median are warranted for future traffic volumes.
I-820 to Eagle Parkway
The existing highway includes two general purpose lanes each direction. Preliminary planning indicates that three to four general purpose lanes in each direction, along with two to three managed lanes in each direction in the median are warranted for future traffic volumes.
Managed Lanes
The managed lane facility on I-35W will connect to other planned managed lane facilities to the east along I-820/SH 183 to SH 161. A managed lane alleviates congestion by adjusting the hours of operation, auto occupancy and value/toll pricing.
Project Development
The proposed number of general purpose lanes and managed lane access locations throughout the corridor are currently being refined. The study includes the preparation of a preliminary layout and an environmental assessment. Initial design layouts are complete and a public meeting were held for the north and south segments. Further public hearings for both segments will be scheduled by fall 2011 and then the projects will be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration. Ongoing agency coordination efforts are facilitated through a Project Coordination Workgroup, as well as continuous public participation through a Stakeholder's Group.
To accelerate construction, TxDOT is evaluating a submission by the North Tarrant Express Mobility Partners for development of 10 miles of I-35W within the ultimate 36-mile North Tarrant Express corridor.
